Talks by expertsClases magistrales

Students of gastronomy will have to hand the most renowned chefs, who will offer their advice and share their culinary secrets during the four days of the festival.

Outstanding cooks, wine stewards and gourmets will give lectures in clear language on techniques, tricks of the trade and tips to produce all sorts of dishes and drinks.

For those who love to cook or would like to learn, these classes are a must, a veritable treasure trove to be enjoyed by all the family.

Cocina de la esquina Cooking on the street corner

The catholic nature of FestiSabores permits the inclusion of flavours and aromas characteristic of street corners in Arequipa and provinces. The street food-vendors as well as eminent representatives of the traditional cuisine will all have free places at the fairground.

Street vendors will offer foods ranging from Peruvian brochettes, tamales, stuffed potatoes, pasties, fritters and soups, to fruit-juices, ice-cream - including 'queso helado' - frosted fruit drinks, and emollients. In this way, FestiSabores makes a special acknowledgement of the flavours to be found at the kerb-side, making the festival a festival with 'street corners'.

Concursos Contests

Among the different activities at the festival, there will be exciting food contests.

  • The best dish - FestiPlato
  • The best cocktail - FestiCoctel
  • The best stand
The aim is to disseminate the diversity of regional cooking styles, to encourage the development of new dishes and cocktails, and to promote the use of locally-produced ingredients.

Espectáculos y artistas

Shows and performers

The success of a grand food festival cannot be complete without a link to arts such as music, dance and drama in their different forms. Several performers and musicians from Peru and abroad will be presented in order subtly to brighten and enliven the atmosphere of the festival. This connexion with the arts (music, dance and drama) will stimulate all the senses of visitors, making our festival an event with a high level of cultural content.

Homenajes

Tributes

FestiSabores is to award public recognition to those who, toiling over a wood-burning stove or crushing ingredients in a mortar, were able to preserve and disseminate the dishes we now consider representative. This is the reward for the skills and perseverance of cooks whose particular flair for seasoning and flavour has resisted the test of time.

Juegos Games

The festival will organize a space where children can have fun and at the same time learn amid physical and mental stimuli.

La Granja

The Farm

This is where the children will get a chance to experience life on a farm, with its ecosystems and characteristic rural assets.

The aim is to create a learning process that functions through experiences in contact with nature, and to generate appreciation of and care for the natural environment.

Furthermore, it is intended to motivate children to recycle waste materials as a way of caring for the environment. The experience of participating in traditional country work, interacting with different kinds of animals, will enable the children to learn something about farming activities.

El Cine Club

Movie club

Bearing in mind that the festival's target public is large and diverse, this year an activity devoted to cinema has been planned, with movies centred on food topics.

Mercado de comercio equitativo

Fair-trade market

The festival enables farmers and market traders from the local valleys to bring and offer their produce by giving them a free space. Producers will obtain better prices for their wares than those paid by intermediaries who go to the farm. High-quality products will be available to purchasers who will recognize their value and pay a fair price, the gastronomy boom thus helping producers to emerge from their present unfavourable conditions.

Los Artesanos Craftsmen

The cultural influence of the local and highland communities will be seen in the form of "popular art" expressed through a variety of essentially manual activities where typical local materials are used. Handcrafts will thus assume the role of ambassadors, representing the identity of each region and promoting the culture of each community.

Taller de Manualidades

Handcrafts workshop

Drawing, painting, stories, the theatre and puzzles will occupy and entertain the youngest folk in an area set up especially for them. The handwork they produce will enable the children as well to be participants in the festival.

Mini Cheff workshop

This is where children will be able to discover a new world of sensations, familiarizing themselves with the different products of our cuisine by means of games and inventing delicious recipes. The festival is for the children, too, so they can learn all about our exquisite dishes.

Flair Show

Flair Show

An exhibition of "flairtending" (or just "flair") will be offered as an entertaining spectacle with choreography.
